What the Hell Chappelle
UPDATE - 5/12/05:
Comedian Dave Chappelle has checked himself into a mental health facility in South Africa and has remained there since late April, according to a source close to the situation. The same source denies rumors of drug abuse. Other sources have also told EW that the future of Chappelle's Show - the hit Comedy Central series that was entering its third season - is more uncertain than the network has suggested.
Dave Chappelle has gone, and smoked himself retarded.
And I got the quotes from Charlie Murphy to prove it, bitches!
Dave is having severe anxiety trouble with pressure mounting to continue coming out with new material. He has been witnessed at clubs and other partying spots having anxiety attacks, and at one point, almost falling out of a window to get some air.
Charlie Murphy, Eddie Murphy's brother was quoted anonymously at first. But then his name was leaked.
Charlie had this to say, "I saw him start trippin' when the buzz started to get real loud, I think he was in shock after the first season, and then {during} the second, it hit him that he was the man. That freaked him. And then came the pressure of living up to expectations for the third season. He's never been there - where something's so good and you got to come even stronger the next time. It was too much."
"Everyone knows Dave likes to have fun," says a music-industry pal. "I wouldn't say it's out of control ... but at some point that has to affect you if you've got a regular gig."
I don't know about you, but I see some Richard Pryor-esque potential here. I hope Dave totally flips this man, and does some material on this insane event. Imagine where he could go with that skit! The whole damn production has stopped indefinitely because Dave is bugged out somewhere, in somebody's apartment, doing who the hell knows what. The dudes a genius, and he wasn't ready to be recognized. "A" hates his comedy, but I get it. He takes the front off people, tries his best at imitations, and is overtly honest about what it is all about today. He is crazy son!
Where the hell is Dave Chappelle, and why isn't this question on the news at night!? Where is he? I wanna know. I need my Samuel L. Jackson beer, and you know who got crowned as, "The New Lawd of Darkness."
He was last seen in full black-face for a skit on his show, when he turned to a journalist who tried to ask him a question and Dave responded, "Bet you never met a real live coon before!"

I always knew Dave Chappelle was crazy! I was wondering where he was! I haven't seen or heard anything about him at all in a while! I had heard that he had some medical problem with his breathing or something, but what you said makes more sense. Show biz is stressful and so isn't the pressure to be funny and creative. Life's a bitch, but if you want that life style, you gotta get used to it and stop freaking out! And to add to all of that, I bet Dave smokes crack because lets face it, he's black and a comedian. It's bound to happen. Crack makes you super anxious, and that would explain the anxiety attacks. I think it's just so funny that he's in hiding! Man he needs to grow some balls and get his ass back into the spot light before people get bored of him and think he's stupid. Lol.
I don't know what he's doing Stephanie. All I know, is this is a story that should be getting much more air play than it is.
Be good babes. :) later.
It's a lot of pressure. He was dubbed the funniest man on television last year. That's tough to live up to. I know I'd be feeling the pinch, too. But I'd hope that I wouldn't fall into a pit of drugs. I'd hope I'd fall into a pit of sexual deviance. Actually, that's the only reason I'd want to be called the funniest man on television.
It's hard to imagine Chappelle having an anxiety atach. That dude is so laid back. His show is really the only thing I watch these days.
I'll respond to the man-panties thing later, or maybe I'll just block it out completely.
Have a great night, B!

I just read this morining that he has been in a mental health clinic since April in South America. Wow.
Man thongs T, not man panties. I'm trying to salvage as much dignity as possible.:)
Haha! Man I knew that would happen! I feel bad for the guy because there is obviously more to that situation than meets the eye. I wonder what else is going on with him. I personally think that his career is pretty much over from here. It's sad to say, but by the time he decides to come back to entertainment, everyone will be sooooo over him! I don't think he will really be accepted back. Which is sad because there is no denying his talent. But in this industry, you can't just disappear for a long time and not tell your fans what's going on and expect to recieve a warm welcome back! People are harsh and judgemental. He let a lot of people down, and I'm sure that eats him alive inside everyday. I really hope he gets better and pulls his shit together!
Great view point Steph. I think he is actually getting help from friends and family by getting people to talk about it.
That starts the hype machine, and the reality is that he is being paid 50 million for two years, so Comedy Central is not going to drop a comodity they are willing to pay that much too.
I hope this is a launch pad to bring the fans something stronger. I think the fans will embrace and forgive him when he comes back. Because, you have to admit. All his viewers probably smoke weed. I when do you ever see a stoner get vindictive?
Lol. True. We will see tho. I wonder when he plans to come back?
